„Сетивни наследства, чувствителни спомени на Балканите" – завръщане към лятното докторантско училище

Лятното училище е третото от поредица семинари на тема „Балканите, пространства, общества и история", предлагани от Френското училище в Атина с неговите партньори под надслов Балкани, пространства, общества, история. То се проведе от 1 до 5 юли 2024 г. в Софийския университет „Св. Климент Охридски" и в Пловдивския университет „Паисий Хилендарски". В него се включиха дванадесет докторанти от различни европейски университети и международен преподавателски екип.

Обучението е финансирано по програма Еразъм+. В обучението участваха 25 студента от България, Гърция, Румъния, Хърватия и Турция.

For much of their histories, the countries that today make up the Balkan Peninsula have shared a past; certainly of religion (or rather religions), usually of empire, often of conflict, always of migration, and just as constantly of trade, tastes in food (and drink), as well as of folk practices. Different ancestors – Thracians, Scythians, Romans, Greeks, Illyrians, proto-Bulgars, Vlacs, Slavs, and so on – all contributed to a mix of peoples and practices that, for all their differences, nevertheless present a recognizable cultural form; at least to outsiders. Not only a cultural form, but a grammatical substantive: "balkanization"…

In our diverse but increasingly interconnected world, we need to find ways to live together in a world populated by people with very different political ideas, moral beliefs and communal loyalties.

Balkan Summer School on Religion and Public Life

July 4-18, 2011, Sofia, Plovdiv, and the Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

The 2011 ISSRPL, held in Bulgaria, was devoted to the different types of margins that we encounter in our social lives. We looked at people, places, families, ethnicities, religions, and practices–all from the perspective of our received notions of society's centers and its margins. Together we explored issues related to poverty, including its role in the marginalization of certain populations. Through our unique combination of lectures and experiential learning, we learned about the situation of the Roma; Bulgarian Pomaks (ethnic Bulgarians who converted to Islam during the Ottoman period); Catholic and Jewish communities in Plovdiv, Bulgaria; and both traditional and emergent Muslim communities.
